3。5/5Gets a bit too info-dumpy and jargony in places, and those parts are a struggle to get through。

Rick Riordan is just a fantastic writer。 I'm certainly not within the target audience of this book - but I really love a good read regardless of the age it's aimed at。 Sometimes a book aimed at teens can still create a sense of fun and wonder in an adult (Harry Potter for instance) and Daughter of the Deep is one of those books, but I think you would have to have loved Jules Vern to have that effect - at least to some extent。 I listened to the book by the way and the performance was well worth a Rick Riordan is just a fantastic writer。 I'm certainly not within the target audience of this book - but I really love a good read regardless of the age it's aimed at。 Sometimes a book aimed at teens can still create a sense of fun and wonder in an adult (Harry Potter for instance) and Daughter of the Deep is one of those books, but I think you would have to have loved Jules Vern to have that effect - at least to some extent。 I listened to the book by the way and the performance was well worth a listen。 。。。more

I really liked this book! Definitely one I could read aloud to my kids。

Creative “sequel” to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea。 While some parts of the story may feel a bit contrived, this is a clever story with a strong sense of place, a driving narrative, and a serious examination of the perils of being power-hungry。

Please read this book! I couldn’t put it down。 I think you’re going to love it! Something, something, daughter of Poseidon, something。But in all fairness, Daughter Of The Deep is a solid one-off (?) novel that manages to establish a world and characters, set up some nice (if a little predicable) plot twists, and bring everything to a satisfying ending。 The overall progression of the characters doesn't go very far (they go to a place, leave the place, and come back), but it's the emotional journey that they go on that's the more important。 And considering this is a love lett Something, something, daughter of Poseidon, something。But in all fairness, Daughter Of The Deep is a solid one-off (?) novel that manages to establish a world and characters, set up some nice (if a little predicable) plot twists, and bring everything to a satisfying ending。 The overall progression of the characters doesn't go very far (they go to a place, leave the place, and come back), but it's the emotional journey that they go on that's the more important。 And considering this is a love letter to two classic novels I've never read, I never felt like I wasn't in on the joke, or that I'd missed something by not reading 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea or The Mysterious Island, so bravo for that。 。。。more

What a great book! I love the way Rick Riordan reinterpreted Verne's work。 Engrossing with great twists。 I sincerely hope this is the start of a new series and not a stand-alone。 What a great book! It was a good book, there just seems to be a lot missing。 Riordan could have went a lot deeper into the story and gave us more information。 Seemed more like a rough draft than anything。 I was disappointed since Jules Verne and Rick Riordan are my favorite authors and I was expecting a lot more。 I was also confused as to what Ana's period had to do with anything。 I'm all for normalizing periods, but I was expecting the period to lead to something and it didn't。 Also, there were also a lot of thro It was a good book, there just seems to be a lot missing。 Riordan could have went a lot deeper into the story and gave us more information。 Seemed more like a rough draft than anything。 I was disappointed since Jules Verne and Rick Riordan are my favorite authors and I was expecting a lot more。 I was also confused as to what Ana's period had to do with anything。 I'm all for normalizing periods, but I was expecting the period to lead to something and it didn't。 Also, there were also a lot of throw away sentences。 For instance, some of the main character's dreams。 One dream she had was only told to us through a sentence or two and then went right back to the story。 It snapped me out of the story and I had to get back again。 I have read all of Rick Riordan's books and I have loved every single one of them, but this one was very nearly a miss。 It was definitely on the line of being a miss。 。。。more

Rick Riordan does it again。。。a well-researched and well written novel with excellent pacing, believable character development, and convincing interpersonal relationships。 His representation of minorities (both visible and invisible) continues to be among the best in the genre。 An excellent read for anyone, juvenile or no。

This was an awesome book。 There’s history with Jules Verne’s story of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, with a great addition with ‘a what if’ this happened。 There’s drama, comedy, and with the way Rick Riordan describes the wonders of the deep and the description of the Nautilus puts you right in the story along side the characters。

IT’S ARRIVED PEOPLE!!!! IT HAS ARRIVED!!! This is so cool。 I loved how Uncle Rick used an amazing book, and kinda did a fanfic on it。 😁 It was so full of action, and the turn of events was spectacular。 I loved it SO SO SO much! It had hilarious lines, and was totally 。 。 。 RIORDAN。 This deserves more than five stars, but I can’t glitch the system。

Actual: 3。5 starsThis has a different tone compared with Rick's other works。 Less funny, less quirky, less energetic compared with his Greek, Norse, and Egyptian Mythology stories。 I dig the ocean vibe though。 Actual: 3。5 starsThis has a different tone compared with Rick's other works。 Less funny, less quirky, less energetic compared with his Greek, Norse, and Egyptian Mythology stories。 I dig the ocean vibe though。 。。。more

Another fun and enjoyable Uncle Rick book。 It's a standalone too!! Or at least at this point it is。 I did enjoy the story, though I found some things slightly too predictable like (view spoiler)[her brother being the bad guy (hide spoiler)]。 Still an enjoyable read overall。 I don't think I would mind if there were more books in the series, but I don't think it's necessary either。 Another fun and enjoyable Uncle Rick book。 It's a standalone too!! So Rick Riordan did it again… another book that I picked up and couldn’t put down except for “regular life things and responsibilities” (then again…。)。 As usual, the world building is effortless and immediately feels familiar。 Much like with his other series, you don’t need long winded explanations to get into it and integrate the mechanics of this version of the world。 The cast of characters is diverse and lovable。 One of the differences with previous books is that it focuses less on conflicts So Rick Riordan did it again… another book that I picked up and couldn’t put down except for “regular life things and responsibilities” (then again…。)。 As usual, the world building is effortless and immediately feels familiar。 Much like with his other series, you don’t need long winded explanations to get into it and integrate the mechanics of this version of the world。 The cast of characters is diverse and lovable。 One of the differences with previous books is that it focuses less on conflicts and more on growth, adventure and discovery。 It will leave you begging (yes, it is the right word) for more。 Captain Nemo would be proud。 。。。more

Basically, if you have ever read an RR book and enjoyed it, read this。 If you like Jules Verne, read this。 If you're terrified of the ocean, mayyyybe give this one a pass, but only if you're really, REALLY scared of the big wet thing。 。。。more

I've just started this book。 I'm only about a quarter of the way through it and I'm already hooked。 I'm suspicious of a couple of characters, though no one has done anything to deserve it。 It fits what I look for in a book: sci-fi, action, humor, some drama and suspense。 I don't know if everything will end up resolved by the end of the book, but I hope that this ends up just being the start of a new series。 I've just started this book。 I'm only about a quarter of the way through it and I'm already hooked。 I'm suspicious of a couple of characters, though no one has done anything to deserve it。 It fits what I look for in a book: sci-fi, action, humor, some drama and suspense。 I don't know if everything will end up resolved by the end of the book, but I hope that this ends up just being the start of a new series。 。。。more

Rick Riordan never fails to produce and amazing book。 The fact that it was a stand alone book and we may never hear of the amazing Ana Dakkar again makes me a bit upset because she and her absolutely brilliantly minded team of Freshmen could go so many places。 A worthy read that I, no doubt will be visiting again and again。

Ok, that exceeded ALLL the expectations, and the expectations were HIGH。 Somehow it reads like a culmination of all Rick’s other books (there’s a lot of elements he’s used before, like sign language, the ocean duh, intelligent animal companions) but also like its whole own thing and I’d give it ten stars if I could。 Really hoping it’s the start of a series, because I really want more for some characters (cough cough Gemini Twain) than they got and I’d totally be up for reading more about this cr Ok, that exceeded ALLL the expectations, and the expectations were HIGH。 Somehow it reads like a culmination of all Rick’s other books (there’s a lot of elements he’s used before, like sign language, the ocean duh, intelligent animal companions) but also like its whole own thing and I’d give it ten stars if I could。 Really hoping it’s the start of a series, because I really want more for some characters (cough cough Gemini Twain) than they got and I’d totally be up for reading more about this crew。 。。。more
